George Hallett: the distinguished visitor

George Hallett, South African photographer based in Cape Town, has been invited to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), Preston, as part of the Distinguished Visitor Programme.

His presence at UCLan is marked by a workshop with photography students, a public lecture, and the exhibition Consigned for Future Memory presented at PR1 Gallery and the Centre for Contemporary Art until 11 April 2014.

George Hallett’s visit and exhibition are organised by Making Histories Visible, the interdisciplinary visual art research project led by Professor Lubaina Himid. It is part of a larger academic and curatorial project around Hallett’s early work in South Africa in the 1960s and in the UK in the 1970s.
